Community Development

Community Development is a process where community members come together to take collective action and generate solutions to common problems in order to build stronger and more resilient communities. 

Thus, community development seeks to empower individuals and groups of people with the skills they need to effect change within their communities. These skills are often created through the formation of social groups working for a common agenda.

While Social Work is professional intervention to address situations of personal distress and crisis by shaping and changing the social environment in which people live; Community Development is the employment of community structures to address social needs and empower groups of people.

In short, social (community) work is the work you do with and for the members of your community, and community development refers to the development projects or efforts that help a community improve its overall quality of life. More….
